You don’t have to live in Eugene long — in fact a visit will do — to see that the downtown scene is a bit of a cluster. While there are cool shops and hip and groovy eateries, they feel a little like islands in a unwelcoming sea of empty storefronts and half-finished projects.
I’m not going to wade into the political firestorm that is the history of attempts to rejuvenate the area, but if the current Summer in the City program is any indication of the future: Hot Damn!
The Dodgeball/Oregon Imaging-Komen fundraiser combo last night was the perfect intersection of hip vibe and community celebration. In other words, completely, wonderfully, delightfully Eugene.
